Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of a game-based learning medium in
overcoming children’s difficulties in distinguishing the names and duties of angels in Islamic
religious education at Raudhatul Jannah children’s Quranic study group. The research was
conducted in a nonformal education setting using a descriptive qualitative approach supported
by simple quantitative analysis. Participants consisted of 15 children aged 6–12 years who
regularly attended the study group. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured
interviews with tutors, documentation, and learning outcome tests in the form of pre-test and
post-test. The educational game utilized cardboard-based interactive media with flap
mechanisms matching angels’ names and duties, reinforced by Sundanese children’s songs as
local cultural elements. The results show an improvement in children’s learning outcomes,
indicated by higher post-test scores and increased engagement during learning activities. The
game-based learning approach also enhanced motivation, active participation, and memory
retention. This study concludes that integrating educational games with local culture effectively
improves children’s understanding and engagement in nonformal religious education.
