Abstract

This community service activity was conducted to increase public understanding of the importance of waste sorting from the source. The target of this activity was visitors to Dadaha Park who still had a low level of awareness regarding how to sort organic and inorganic waste. The solution provided was direct and interactive education through a persuasive communication approach, where the author approached the community personally, provided explanations regarding waste sorting techniques, and demonstrated simple examples of applications that can be carried out in the surrounding environment. The target output to be achieved was an increase in basic community knowledge. The methods used in this activity included: (1) preparation of educational materials and media and site permits, (2) arrangement of activity flow, (3) implementation of direct counseling through explanations and demonstrations of how to sort waste, and (4) concluding with evaluation through observation and short interviews. The results of the community service showed that most people began to understand the differences in waste types and the benefits of sorting them, and showed a positive response to the education provided. This activity is expected to be the first step in building broader environmental awareness in public spaces.
