Abstract

Ecobricks as a creative solution to reduce plastic waste were implemented in this community service activity to address plastic waste issues. Plastic waste remains one of the most persistent environmental challenges, especially in elementary schools where awareness and habits of waste sorting are still limited. This community service program aims to increase students' environmental knowledge and awareness through waste management education and ecobrick-making practices at MI Nagarakasih 1. The implementation methods included observation, counseling sessions, pre-test and post-test assessments, demonstrations, and hands-on ecobrick-making practices. The ecobricks produced by students were then assembled into functional seating furniture. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a significant increase in student knowledge after the educational intervention (p < 0.001), with the percentage of students in the "good" knowledge category increasing from 30% in the pre-test to 71.7% in the post-test. These results indicate that combining visual presentations, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice is an effective approach in increasing understanding of plastic waste issues. Overall, this program indicates an improvement in students' environmental literacy and encourages positive behavioral changes towards sustainable waste management.
