Abstract

Chikungunya prevention in RW 8 Sukaherang Village through education and the provision of abate powder aims to improve the knowledge and skills of the community of RW 08 Sukaherang Village in preventing Chikungunya. Chikungunya cases in the Sukaherang area still frequently occur due to inadequate environmental sanitation conditions, the presence of stagnant water, uncovered water reservoirs, and the minimal use of larvicides such as abate powder. The empowerment activity was carried out through an educational and demonstrative approach involving 20 housewives as the main target, considering their role in managing water and household environmental hygiene. The method used was a pre-test and post-test to measure the increase in participants' knowledge. The series of activities included registration, counseling on the transmission, symptoms, and prevention of Chikungunya, a demonstration of the use of abate, a discussion session, and the distribution of abate powder. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, where the score of participants' correct answers increased from 80–95% in the pre-test to 100% in the post-test. This indicates that the education and demonstration provided were effective in increasing participants' understanding and awareness regarding independent Chikungunya prevention in the home environment. It is hoped that similar activities can be carried out continuously to support the sustainable reduction of Chikungunya cases.
