Abstract

Household waste, especially organic kitchen waste, remains a serious environmental issue in Indonesia, including in Mugarsari Sub-district, Tasikmalaya. Although public awareness of cleanliness has increased, household-level waste management practices are still not optimal. The objective of this program is to provide knowledge and practical skills for housewives in processing kitchen waste into molasses or decomposing solutions that can be used for composting, odor control, and as microbial activators. The main problem identified is the lack of independent and environmentally friendly waste management at the household level, as most residents have not yet applied biotechnology-based methods such as molasses fermentation. The method of implementation consisted of three stages: preparation, implementation, and sustainability. In the preparation stage, the team conducted surveys, interviews, and group discussions to assess community needs. The implementation stage included socialization, training on molasses production, application of technology, mentoring, and evaluation. In the sustainability stage, continuous support was provided through remote assistance and regular monitoring. The results show that participants gained better understanding and skills in producing and using molasses to accelerate the decomposition of organic waste while reducing unpleasant odors. Housewives became more capable of managing kitchen waste independently and contributing to a cleaner environment. In conclusion, the program successfully improved household capacity in waste management and raised community awareness of sustainable environmental practices.
