Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has introduced new challenges to the practice of freedom of expression in public spaces, particularly on social media. Freedom of expression, as a fundamental aspect of human rights, often clashes with manipulative phenomena such as coordinated buzzer attacks that suppress critical voices. This activity aimed to enhance public understanding—especially among the younger generation—of human rights (HR) concepts in the digital context and to strengthen ethical awareness in social media usage. The implementation method consisted of three stages: planning (material preparation and participant needs assessment), execution (seminars and interactive discussions), and evaluation (pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire). The activity involved 75 participants and showed a significant improvement in understanding issues of freedom of expression based on human rights, as evidenced by an average post-test score increase of 24.4 points. The content included an introduction to human rights, limitations of digital freedom, and case analysis of buzzer attacks. Discussion outcomes indicated high interest in the topic and a growing need for broader human rights literacy. In conclusion, human rights education in the digital space is a strategic step toward strengthening democracy and fostering a healthier, fairer, and more inclusive social media ecosystem.
